John Beattie

I retired in 2024 after 37 years working for Arsenal Football Club as the Stadium and Facilities Director. During this time, I oversaw the changes at Highbury and the building of Emirates Stadium. This involved writing all the various procedures used to ensure the stadium works efficiently.

I was the President of The European Safety and Stadium Management Association from 2008 to 2024, which is dedicated to promulgating best practice around Europe. I have been involved on several National Standard Training documents for both stewards and safety officers.

A current member of UEFA’s Stadium Construction & Management Panel and was heavily involved in the Stadium preparations for EURO 2012 in Poland and the Ukraine. I have and am currently providing consultancy advice on the construction, planning and operation of various stadia around the world.
