Richard Murphy OBE

Richard Murphy OBE is Scotland’s leading architect, Managing Director and design leader at Richard Murphy Architects. He is renowned for his ability to master a new building type so that the practice has won many awards for a whole range of projects.

An expert on housing, theatres, cinemas, arts and university buildings, he has also been responsible for two British Embassies with an ability to work creatively with historic buildings and to place contemporary design in sensitive historic contexts.

He is an academic authority on the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, has written three books about him and lectured all over the world. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy, in 2007 he was appointed OBE.
